East Mountain
East Mountain communities are found along the sloping eastern incline of the Sandias and Manzanos. Among them are Golden, Madrid, Cerrillos, Cedar Crest, Sandia Park and Tijeras which sits at the western end of the deep canyon separating the two mountain ranges.

The East Mountains are also the gateway to Sandia Peak Ski Area which offers skiing and snowboarding in the winter as well as hiking and mountain biking in the summer. Paa-ko Ridge Golf Club, the Southwest’s only five-star golf course, lies just north of the road to the ski area. Residents often hit golf balls in the morning and hit the slopes in the afternoon.
